Abstract

The aim of the research is to develop a method to overcome inconsistencies in data on international migration flows due to differences in concepts and measurements in terms of time dependence. A typology of possible types of data on international migration flows will be developed on the basis of the different concepts and measures that are recommended by international institutions and used by countries when producing statistics. The typology will provide a basis for the construction of the model. Different types of data in terms of time dependence will be set up in the framework of probability models in order to estimate the parameters of the real migration process and to find a relationship between different measurements. The final model will enable to convert one data type into another type. The impact of different data types on the reported volume of migration will also be analyzed based on a comparison of immigration and emigration statistics on flows between European country pairs, because discrepancies in statistics reported by sending and receiving country reflect, among others, differences in applied concepts and measurements.
