Abstract

CSE is a conglomerate of disciplines concerned with mathematical-physical modeling, numerical analysis, data structures, data processing, software and applications in science and engineering. Together with theory and experiment, CSE underpins physical and engineering science as a crucial third mode of scientific investigation and engineering design. Because there is no end in sight yet for the rapid growth of computing power, and because of effectiveness of numerical algorithms increases at a similar rate, the already realized and potential benefits of CSE are enormous.
The scientific challenge is the development and exploitation of ever more complete and hence realistic computational/mathematical models and algorithms for the analysis, control, design and optimization of processes, materials, structures and systems in science and engineering.
