Mission The institute should pursue excellent research in the neurosciences with the emphasis on brain and vision research. The general research objective is the study of brain functions and the visual system centred round the interaction of genes and environment. Processes such as development, plasticity and ageing play an important role. The scientific infrastructure comprises three levels of biological complexity:
o genetic and molecular approaches
o cellular approaches and network function
o system approaches.
Addition The NIN has been created by a merger of: Netherlands Institute for Brain Research (NIH) and Netherlands Ophthalmic Research Institute (IOI).
