Mission Research at the Department of Earth Sciences is organised through the Institute of Earth Sciences Utrecht (IVAU or Instituut voor Aardwetenschappen Utrecht). The institute?s mission is to be an international centre of excellence in scientific research and graduate education. The research activities of IVAU cover all aspects of the evolution and functioning of the Earth system, from molecular to planetary processes. The core disciplines represented within IVAU ? geochemistry, geology, geophysics, biogeology and hydrogeology ? integrate principles and methods of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics, in order to reconstruct, interpret and predict the dynamical behaviour and structure of the solid Earth, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere, as well as their interactions, on time scales ranging from days to billions of years.
Addition Personeelsomvang 75 fte betreft taakstellende fte onderzoek van wetenschappelijk personeel. Totaal werkzaam zijn circa 150 wetenschappers en circa 20 niet-administratieve support staff.
