| Mission |
Research is performed by the scientific staff of the Open University. The purpose of one part of the research (institutional research) is pursuing improvement and innovation with regard to the university's own educational system and with regard to higher education in general. The other part of the university's research is subject oriented. The courses of the Open University are developed by seven faculties, each of which concentrates on specific disciplines. |

The Open University's headquarters are situated in Heerlen. There are also 15 study centres spread all over the country. At the moment, over 700 people are employed by the Open University, divided over the headquarters and the study centres. |
