NARCIS - National Academic Research and Collaborations Information System

Goal

NARCIS has been developed by the KNAW to increase visibility and retrievability of Dutch scientific research. The former DAREnet and information from the Dutch Research Database (NOD) are integrated into one portal: NARCIS.
NARCIS gives access to scientific information consisting of (open access) publications from all the Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO, and a number of research institutes, the datasets of the institute DANS, as well as descriptions of research projects, institutes and researchers. Research news from, among others, Intermediair Nieuws, Science Guide and several universities is presented on the homepage of NARCIS with access to the full articles. The news content is refreshed every hour.
NARCIS can notify you automatically by an RSS feed on new open access publications, datasets and the newest research in your area of interest. For researchers it is possible to create their own publication list via RSS feed.

Content

Open Access publications and bibliographical information:

  • NARCIS contains (open access) publications from all Dutch universities, scientific institutes, KNAW and NWO.
  • Promise of Science contains open access doctoral e-theses from all Dutch universities.

Data sets:

NARCIS contains data sets from the Electronic Archiving System (EASY) of the institute DANS (Data Archiving and Networked Services). These are data sets in the fields of arts and humanities, and social sciences.

Researchers:

  • Portal of professors and associate professors: Addresses and teachings of professors and associate professors (7,500 names).
  • Expert database: Expertise of researchers based on information submitted by the researchers themselves (10,000 records)
  • Names and research data of researchers (36,000 names linked to research data, 18,000 names linked to workplace, 13,000 email addresses of researchers)

Research institutes:

  • Profiles, research data and researchers of all Dutch research schools.
  • Profiles (750 records) and addresses (3,200 records) of university or non-university research institutes.

Research:

Project descriptions of current (20,000 records) and completed research projects (22,000 records) e.g. per research discipline, programme, research school, organisation, researcher and index term.

Scientific news:

Scientific news items taken from various sources e.g. Intermediair magazine, Science Guide and several universities with the option of clicking through to the full articles. The news content is refreshed every hour.




Cooperation

NARCIS will be developed within the framework of SURFShare, in close cooperation with the Dutch universities and NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research). Surffoudation
